About Pilar Mata Dupont

Visual artist. She works with video, photography, performance, and design. Her work explores the notions of nationalism, identity, and mythology as psychological triggers of nostalgia, through parables and highly cinematic and theatrical methods. Mata Dupont’s photographs and films work with national narratives from several countries, including Australia, Finland and South Korea. Her technically refined pieces explore the spectacular dimension of image and its power of attraction. Her work has been shown at group exhibitions at The Secession Building in Vienna, Austria (2014); the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Japan (2014); Akademie der Künste in Berlin, Germany (2012); the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia (2012 and 2008); Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, France (2011); the 17th Biennale of Sydney, Australia (2010); and others. She won the prestigious Basil Sellers Art Prize in 2010, in partnership with her collaborator Tarryn Gill.
